Boise State University Policies

News and Updates

April 2012 Update:
The President has approved revisions to several existing policies and added a new policy, summaries of the approvals made are as follows:

Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment (1060) – The policy changes include minor modifications that clarify reporting notifications, add additional reporting contacts, and fix technical errors.

Course Repetition GPA Relationship Policy (2190) – This policy change modifies the number of courses a student can repeat in their undergraduate career.  For all new students and transfer students, effective Fall 2012, the course repeat maximum is limited to six (6) while pursuing an undergraduate degree.  For all students enrolled at Boise State University prior to Fall 2012, the course repeat maximum is three (3) times per class which remains consistent with previous course repetition policy limits.  This policy change arose as a way to assist with course enrollment backlogs; changes were vetted by Deans’ Council, Faculty Senate, and ASBSU.

Limit on the number of “W” (2220) – The policy change adds a limit of two (2) to the number of withdrawals per course that a student may receive.  The purpose of the change is to free up seating capacity in courses; changes were vetted by Deans’ Council, Faculty Senate, and ASBSU.

Joint Appointment of a Faculty Member (4570) – The University is supportive of faculty members efforts to cross disciplinary boundaries between academic and research units, for this reason the Joint Appointment of a Faculty Member policy was created.  The policy establishes principles and procedures for creating a joint appointment, outlines joint appointment memorandum of understanding (MOU) structural requirements, and defines signature approval requirements for a joint appointment MOU.

Academic Advising Responsibilities (4010) – Changes were made to this policy to align the policy with the current practices in advising. Specifically the revisions to this policy add definition to the advising process; more clearly define the scope of advising while maintaining advisor accountability; and add a shared accountability with administrative units and student advisees.  These policy changes were vetted by the University Advising Council, Enrollment Management Enrollment Team, Deans and Associate Deans, Department Chairs, College and Departmental Advising Coordinators, and the Faculty Senate.

In an effort to better organize institutional policies, we have revised the Table of Contents and renumbered all existing policies. If you know the old number of the policy you’re looking for, please open the Conversion Chart (pdf) to locate the new number. You can also search for policies by clicking on the Policy Manual link and entering keywords or policy numbers (new or old).
